To use a blog reader or not...
Do any of y'all use a blog reader?
I use google reader, but realized tonight that I don't much like it. (Although maybe it was because I was sick all week and let the reader accumulate over 100 posts to read...) Does anyone have a suggestion for a better one?
While the google one is extremely helpful in not letting me miss any posts from my favorite blogs I miss going to the actual websites. I love opening a blog that I really enjoy and being excited by the beautiful headers, colors, photography, and buttons. Seeing their layout and the flow of posts, even if I am just scrolling through posts I have already read to look at the pretty pretty pictures!
While I will still use my blog reader...I would hate to miss any posts (especially the one announcing Heather Ross's next studio sale that I keep missing!!) I am definitely going to follow the posts back to their blogs more often!

have never used one.....like you said; I like looking at the blogs.....colds are going around,eh....hubby and I have had colds since just after Christmas....take care of it...
ReplyDeleteI keep my blogs on the sideline of my own blog and click on the new posts to read. If you find something let me know. I would be interested.
ReplyDeleteDo you know about the Google Reader "Next" button? I LOVE IT. Google allows you to put this "Next" button in your menu bar. Then every time you click it, it takes you to the actual website of the next blog post on your Reader list. I never go to Reader itself, I just use the Reader Next button. Check it out.
ReplyDeleteI use google reader, but I always make sure I go to my fav blogs : ) I feel like reader helps me filter posts I might not be so interested in reading. So like, I'll check my reader on my phone and if something catches my attention I'll leave it marked"unread" and go back and actuality check the blog :)
ReplyDeleteI second the Google Reader Next button!! I love it!!
ReplyDeleteYep the next button is the way to go .
ReplyDeleteYup, was going to share the next button as well. My only problem is I frequently like to save some of the posts, and I haven't found a way to keep them marked as unread (can just press "m" when in Google Reader) when going through with the next button. Also, when I'm in a hurry, I always use Google Reader since I usually have a handful of blogs I want to check, but using the next button doesn't give you a choice of what you read first.
ReplyDeleteBIG HUG to all of you. I did not know about the Next button until today, but I can tell it's my new favorite thing!
ReplyDeleteI use reader, but make it a habit to click out the blogs that I'm either going to comment or ones I'm going to read later (long posts) since using reader only works if you actually have the time to look at it! I do tend to pop out a lot of blogs a day. It helps me remember to leave comments too!
ReplyDeleteI use both--I like to click on the actual articles to comment, so I feel like I don't miss out either way!
ReplyDeleteI used to have trouble with the Google reader until I learned to use it better. Now that I know how to sort and put things into folders it's so much easier. Maybe you could have a folder just for the special ones you like to visit?
ReplyDeleteCheck out Sister Diane's video tutorial on <a href="http://www.craftypod.com/2010/01/22/video-google-reader-tricks-for-craft-bloggers/. It help me out tremendously!
I have a Google reader account but view my feeds with Feedly. I LOVE IT! (http://www.feedly.com) I am anxiously awaiting a matching app for android. That is where I have a hard time with feeds.
ReplyDeleteBTW, love your blog. Found it from the Houston Modern Quilt Quild.
